DIY takoyaki!!! I don't even really like takoyaki (octopus balls - phrasing) all that much but I had to jump at the chance to make my own. It was fun. They have pictorial directions, plus they will come to your rescue if you screw it up like we did.
Both the takoyaki and the kushikatsu were really good. The sauces for both are less sweet and have more bite than most tonkatsu sauce in America, which I really appreciated.
The Osaka-style fried food on a stick was pretty good too, though the thick, rough breadcrumb coating hurt the roof of my mouth a little. My favorite we tried was the pineapple. It was hot and sweet like grilled pineapple or the pineapple in sweet and sour pork, only with the added crunchy GBD (golden brown and delicious, if you're an Alton Brown fan) fried texture. The one I was least a fan of was the tuna. It was so hard cooked it had the look, texture, and taste of bland white meat chicken. But it was still fine due to the magic of deep-frying. You could deep-fry a flip flop and it would probably not taste too terrible, lmao.
My only nitpick was that I wish the takoyaki had more than 1 piece of tako per ball. At the Marukai in Costa Mesa, CA, the fresh takoyaki stand there puts around 3-4 pieces per ball and it really takes up the proverbial notch. Bamu!
Service was good and ambiance really felt like a Japanese back-alley joint. The whole food court did, actually. Reminded me of Jewel Bako in NY. Probably one of my favorite food experiences in Hawaii (next to MoDo!). -

3ish stars
Been coming to Yokocho lately since I realized that a lot of the places here lack my review and thats how i ended up here today!
Here my thoughts:
-Ambience: nice seating area inside Yokocho Waikiki. Reception sucks so make sure you are OK on disconnecting from the world or use their wi-fi (see my pict)
-Service: everyone was nice and friendly
-Parking: $7 flat rate
-Food:
Kushikatsu 10 item set ($29)
Honestly, the oil they use was fresh but it was juts ok, nothing wow to me and for $30 to my belly it just felt like an appetizer...

Place was simple and easy to order. No frills about the food, just good fried meats, seafood, and other items like cheese or sweets!
Ambience: B ... your typical Japanese dining spot.
Service: A ... attentive and quick.
Food: A- .... fast and delivered hot. Ordered the seafood platter, pork, and fried cheese. All good especially w the sauce. We were curious about the fried Mochi soup so we tried it. It's VERY sticky, but the broth was very flavorful.

Maybe it's because we DIY'd it wrong, but our takoyaki was not very good. Maybe it was just newbie error? Too chewy and doughy for our liking...

I went here for Lunch and they have great lunch deal specials. We ordered the beef udon set that came with kushikatsu - steak, shrimp and lotus all deep fried in batter. The set was $9.95 which is a good deal! It hit the spot too because I was craving for Udon! This is located inside the Waikiki Yokocho and I'm glad I stumbled upon this place.
